Have Third-Party car insurance? Know how to make a claim in case of accidents

Accidents are very troubling and an upsetting experience for anyone. Staying alert and knowing what to do next saves yourself a lot of trouble and time.

The most important thing is to check the safety of the people involved and making sure that any injuries are attended to immediately. Once the safety of everyone involved is confirmed, the next thing to do is to secure the documents you need to file the car insurance claim.

If you have a Third-Party Car Insurance policy, and the accident is not your fault, you need to pursue the claim through the Faulty driver’s insurance company. You should not have to worry about anything else as the liability falls on the insurer of the driver at fault.

Here is a quick guide of the steps that you may follow in the event of a car accident:

  1. Contact the police.

The first thing that you need to do is to contact the police to report the accident. The police shall inspect the place of the incident and the damages to the vehicles involved. The drivers will be given a police report which contains the accident summary including the vehicle and driver details. It will also mention if you are at fault or not at fault in the accident.

This document is a mandatory requirement to file a car insurance claim with the insurers.

  1. If you are not at fault, file the claim with the Faulty driver’s insurance company.

After getting the police report, the next step is to contact the Faulty driver’s insurer to file the claim. The insurance company of the Faulty driver is mentioned in the police report.

Try to get in touch with the insurance provider as soon as possible and provide all the required documents to quickly settle the claim. You will be required to submit the police report, vehicle registration card and driving license of the person driving at the time of the accident.

You may also take some photos of the damages to your vehicle or any bodily injury which resulted from the accident. This will be a helpful reference to support your claim.

  1. Take the car to the assigned garage.

After registering the claim with the Faulty driver’s insurance company, they should provide you with the garage details where you need to take the car for repair. You can drop the vehicle at the assigned garage or request the Faulty insurance company to provide towing assistance, in cases where the vehicle is not in a driving condition.

The vehicle will be then examined by the motor surveyors to decide if the repair work should be carried out or not. In most cases, the authorization is provided within 2 days.

When the repair is completed, the authorized garage shall give you a call to inform you.

  1. Replacement vehicle.

When making a non-faulty car insurance claim, you are entitled to a replacement vehicle, the cost of which should be paid by the Faulty driver’s insurer. You can request the Faulty insurance company to provide you with the replacement vehicle or you can take a rent a car and claim the rental charges from the Faulty insurance company after the repair period.

Insure your car with the best Third-Party Car Insurance policy. Nothing but the best for your individual needs.
