  • Sleep better
  • Digest food more efficiently improves your body immune response
  • Reduce the level of stress
  • Boost concentration

If we breathe effectively, our breath will be smooth, steady, silent, and controlled.

Research has shown our emotions and our breathing patterns are closely related and often affect each other and, managing our emotions and remaining calm under pressure impacts our productivity and creativity.

Breathing exercise & techniques:

It is fairly simple to incorporate breathing exercises in our daily routine as it takes very little time, requires no equipment and can be done anywhere. The benefits can be further increased by exercising in the fresh air.

Furthermore, diaphragmatic breathing is also at the centre of all practices of meditation, which is known to help us manage depression, anxiety, and sleeplessness.

New-born babies naturally practice deep or diaphragmatic breathing by using the diaphragm, a muscle under the lungs to pull air into the lungs. Visually, you will see the belly expand and chest rise as they inhale air through the nose and into the lungs. As they exhale the belly contracts.

Diaphragmatic breathing has benefits like

  • Helps to relax, lower the effect of the stress hormone
  • Lower the heart rate & blood pressure
  • Cope with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Improves core muscle stability

Paced Breathing also uses a neural network beyond the brain stream that is tied to emotions, attention, and body awareness.

Practicing YogaPranayama regulates the sympathetic nervous system (part of the body that control breathing), heart rate and blood pressure.

When we do breathe, we are either left or right nostril dominant. Dominance changes every 20 min during the day. Single nostril breathing can help regulate our nervous system.  It is interesting to note that, when the right nostril is dominant we are more active, fired up and aroused. While when the left nostril is dominant, we are opposite; relaxed and at ease.
